anyone willing to bet that they removed any references to hell so as not to offend any crazy christian groups out there. Yeah, which is bullshit. At the beginning of the movie, there were a few minor hints that the writers weren't going to pull their punches(like the superstitious marine who cuts crosses on his wrist), but then, of course, as I watched on, the movie proved me wrong, and went with the safe approach. I've read interviews with some of the actors, saying that the movie is true to the game, in that 'there are many different concepts of hell'. Well, maybe, but they should have been aiming for a specific one here, and they missed. (If ever there is to be a sequel, they had better stop giving a fuck about these bullshit religious groups and go ahead and make things the way they are supposed to be) The Doom movie, as is, is a bargain bin buy only. I wouldn't pay more than 5$ to own it, and that's primarily because of the FPS sequence.

Yep.
I don't see why it would've been so hard to just go ahead and make it just like Doom 3... they even copied many of the sets from the game, but they cut out the evil stuff.

Seeing as this movie is almost out on DVD, I have begun to think....
Of course there is probably going to be a sequel.... but I think I know of one way that they can use the storyline they already have and still make this work the way it's supposed to...
Suppose that 24th chromosome that they were injecting in the people in the movie is a genetic strain from an actual demon, which was used by those ancient martian people as a desperate attempt to fight off an ancient demonic invasion(they failed, obviously).
Noticing that some humans were stupid enough to actually unleash the demonic chromosome once again, hell decides to invade earth, leaving it up to the Doomguy once again to stop the mess... only this time the demons are the real deal, not imitations.
I have too much time on my hands.....

well they could do that but why would they? if they're too chicken shit to use hell in the first place it probably wouldn't be used in a sequel. the storyline for a sequel will probably be much simpler, in that one of the mutant "demon" creatures are still alive and somehow makes it through the teleporter thing through to earth. it could still be called doom 2: hell on earth but hell would just be a misleading metaphor.

You're right, of course... it's not as if film studios actually have the balls to go through with it.... I don't think they ever did....
It's all wishful thinking on my part.

film studios don't have the balls to do a lot of things, which might explain why there are so many remakes
