it pisses me off. what does? i hear you cry (oh so eagerly)
well i'll tell you (don't worry this isn't some random free verse this is just a little rant of my own):
i don't know how many of you experience this, on its own its enough to make you think that the person who does it is a turd, but soon enough it becomes quite infuriating.
consider this: you're a skateboarder... for arguements sake you are me (fun isn't it, being me...no i didn't think so either) and you are skating with someone it doesn't matter who because you know the chances of seeing them again are pretty slim, you are just skating as you do (or as i do as you are now me...but who does that make me?) and this person is flat out trying to show you up so they can say 'ha, thats another person below me in the grand scheme of things'
you (I) have finished warming up now, so you begin to get your flow together, they still whine at you 'can you do this basic variation of this trick or this boneless-hold-the-board-in-the-air-for-10-minutes-then-jump-on-it-,-only-to-mess-up-and-land-with-one-foot-on-the-board or a kick-and-hope attempt at a no-comply flip, you tolerate it, because you like skating with new people, but still they compete, it bothers you that they can't be content to just get better for the sake of themselves and now it annoys you, it puts youoff tricks you would normally land, you want to roll up and polish off a manual combo, but they talk to you as you pop and that really fucks you up getting ready to flip a gap and they keep you waiting whilst they babble on asking you if you can do this and that or show them a whatever...
it puts you off, you could punch them, but its not their fault they want validation.
so instead of being out right rude you do what they intended to do and show them up (from experience most of these people are so-called freestyers who want to be the best at 'rodney mullen' tricks...)
so you step up your game and dazzle them with flip tricks, the obviously have no clue whats going on, they'll go nuts at a varial rail flip, but look cluelessly unimpressed at a presureflip late hardflip...you can see them scowl when they realise they are in over thier heads, then they formulate their plan,
"i have a friend who can do those"
I FUCKING HATE THAT
maybe they do i'm not dissmissing that, the tricks i do aren't exsclusaivly mine, though 90% of the cases i do doubt, (they would know what i'm talking about then). it is the plain fact that when they realise they can no longer hold their own they feel threatened enough to bring in a non entity in an attempt to gain respect...god only knows why i would respect someone who knows someone who can do a particulat trick... but the logic is there...it fucks me right up, this person may or may not exist but they are irrelevant...
am i being over the top? anyone elses thoughts?
are they just making conversation? or are they all out to get me?
