i saw hitch hikers guide to the galaxy - a few minor changes from the first book, but its just as wacky and funny as the book. best part was the bit with the whale plummeting to the ground.
session 9 - a smart horror/ drama movie. not bad at all
the rules of attraction - a wicked movie. if nothing else worth it for the split screen shot and the sequence whee vincent describes backpacking across europe.
the city of lost children - i thought it was crap. it looked cool but that was about it.
rope - A hitchcock film shot like a play, ie supposed to have been done in one shot. but due to the length of film reels there were subtle cuts. interesting from a technical POV but it was kinda a crappy movie.
manhunter - the very first in the hannibal lecter films (it was remade a couple of years ago as red dragon). it wasn't that great red dragon was much better. the biggest problem was that at the time anthony hopkins was not hannibal lecter.
spun - basically requim for a dream (freakin excellent movie) but meth instead of heroin and nowhere near as good. also the only way to describe the editing is spastic. i swear in some simple scenes there were cuts well into the hundreds. it just got annoying.

just bought dr strangelove: or how i learnt to stop worrying and love the bomb. excellent movie, extremely funny.
also saw star wars episode 3. saw it opening night. george lucas has redeemed himself after the last two somewhat shit movies. its a great movie but the empire strikes back is still the best.

Not today, but recently, I did watch Star Wars III. I thought it was great... though it seems to be one of those movies that people either totally love, or completely despise.
*shrug*

do you think hiring thousands of star wars nerds (assuming they could fit in the costumes) for cheap would be more effective than using CGI to creat armies. i would rather watch that scene from episode 6 where vader meets palpatine with all the real-not-CGI soldiers than some completly computer animated sequence

Having that many Star Wars nerds in one place would scare away any of the sane people who work on the movie.... thus, they used CGI.

saw war of the worlds. it was a pretty good movie, it was all just hiding from the alien machines, except for the last parts. this movie was just alien machine vs man, signs was alien vs man, and independence day was man machine vs alien machine. just sayin

saw anacondas: the hunt for the blood orchid, and what a piece of shit. okay, i was really into snakes for like 6 years, and i have a ball python, and anacondas are my favorite snake, so this movie was totally wrong. i will point this out. on the dvd cover, there are burmese pythons, not anacondas. anacondas dont live in borneo, where this is set (they are native to south america). anacondas (and every other snake) dont eat flowers (as they speculate in the movie). they totally got the anacondas coloration wrong in every instance, except for when they show an overview of the water. anacondas arent territorial (thats the main fact that this main guy can come up with). and anacondas do not move fast on land. they use a form of locamotion which is basically walking with the ends of their ribcages, as they are too large for the standard serpentine motion. cutting an anaconda's head off can not be done with a simple machete (especially when the animal's head is as thick as a telephone pole). police had to use a hacksaw, up in massachuesettes a while back, and that took like a half hour (they also tried other things, like an axe).
and, the blonde chick kept switching from a western accent to a normal, american accent.
this movie sucked

war of the worlds- very suspensful and well directed. steven spielberg's best work since that show "invasion america" which i also love. good acting all round and the special effects were used as sparingly as possible as they can be in a sci fi movies these days, and alot more convincingly then some of the CGI-laddened movies of late, like revenge of the sith.
highlight of the movie for me was my friend yelling out "shoot birds at the robots, shoot birds, that what will kill them!" when tom cruise is trying to tell the army dudes who obviously must of been super dumb that the shields were down, judging by the birds on top of the machines
