There are a lot of solid videos out there, and some go as far as to be fantastic. However, there are those select movies that just simply suck beyond all reproach. And it is time we name them, lest other unfortunate children fall victim to our folly and buy nasty shit instead of worthwhile videos.
As it's my thread, I'll go first:
Deca - Sneak Preview I know I'm probably not going to get a lot of agreement on this, but, I just can't sit and watch this video all the way through. I can't. I won't. I'll just come out and admit it: I do not like Daewon Song's skating. His style is boring and not terribly innovative, despite what others might say. At best he looks like an acrobat turned skater on the board. The only original trick I've seen him do(though I'm told he invented some of the tricks he does) is the double bluntslide. His tricks have no real style to them, as he snaps them so close to the ground that the only thing that stands out about him is that he's really fast.
The rest of the skating is so-so, and thus the fate of this video hinges on one thing: the music. And the music is awful. It's the worst kind of rap, and it's not that I especially hate rap, but this stuff is formulaic and boring. It's like Chris Dobstaff's song for The Storm was stretched and modified to fit this entire video.
And while we're on the subject of The Storm, I'm not going to say I hate that video, because I really don't at all. Dave Mayhew doing a tailslide to impossible? That's good stuff! However, it has my least favorite part of a video. A wierdly filmed "line" with Offspring playing in the background, which serves to be the biggest waste of time since Fox used to show The Nanny three times a day.

please tell me you didn't just call daewon unoriginal. Even if you don't like his style, jesus christ, look at the table set ups and weird shit he skates. If switch heel bluntslide down a table perched at a 70 degree angle into an equally slanted bank isn't style i don't know what is. Now that i think about it all your reasons for not liking daewon seem based in stupidity...you said it yourself he invented half the tricks he does. I can understand if you don't like his style...but everything else just seems stupid. you confuse me.

Perhaps I should revise my statement, lest I be occused again of stupidity. I'm not saying he's unoriginal per se, because he is, after all, one of the most technical street skaters around.
However, I've only seen 3 movies featuring him, and it's almost as if he does all the same things, just in a different order. Table, parking lot, flatground. And it's true, I don't like his style and that's where many of my complaints stem from. If he invented the tricks, that's fantastic, but it doesn't make him the best at it by any means.
Style and technique are two very different things. A switch heel to bluntslide is a fantastic trick, and I seriously couldn't imagine landing those anywhere in the near future. But the way he does these tricks has no real flow, no smoothness, he just snaps off the trick as quickly as possible. He's incredibly technical and that appeals to some people(look at all the Mullen fans out there). It's a difficult thing to describe how it's unnapealing to me, it just is.
Maybe if I use examples: Tom Penny(especially in Menikmati) - Loads of style, but not too much technique(like, 90% of his trick are kickflips)
Daewon Song - Craploads of technique, but at the cost of a certain percieved effortlessness that comes from style.

i'm definatly gonna have to disagree with your comments on daewon song. i've heard this argument a million times before and i keep thinking what about all those skaters out there whos parts consist of rails, rails, rails, gap, rail, rail, good god a two trick line!, rail, rail, gap, 20 stair rail to finish the part like its so much more amazing that they just did an extra three stairs.
in a world full of all these gnarly piss drunk tight pants wearing pirate shirt wearing skaters daewon is a major breath of fresh air.
now my least favourite skate video. Thats life by Foundation pretty much rails rails and gaps. only two good parts from daniel shimuzu and justin strubing. the rest are boring as fuck. and i really hate corey duffel his gimmick seems to be dress like a flamboyant pirate and do the same tricks he's done a million times down a slightly larger handrail. i can't remember a single trick from that video and thats not a good sign.

Apparently I am the minority. And I can see why people like Daewon, just as I can see why people like Louie Barletta(I'm a fan, myself) or Mike Vallely. They're different, and they have styles that aren't easily replicated. I guess it all comes down to what appeals to you.

What was the name of that Transworld video with all of those young amateur skaters, like that little bastard Paul Rodriguez? That one sucked ass.
And aside from Kirchart's part, I didn't like the latest Emerica video at all.

They should have kept marc johnson on the team then that vid would have had some originality.

i feel like such PD wannabe around you guys. i love that's life, cept ethan fowler's, the friends and that angel kid's part. they all blew hard arse dog poo poo. the rest were sick tricks and music. i still say tony silva will one day break free of leo's shadow, his style is much better than leo's and he has just a good a'tricks.
the storm, i hate that video with all my mind, heart and soul. same with got gold?
i liked in bloom. P-rod's part was ahead of it's time and around the same time he was saving up footy for city stars. switch tre a 3 flat 4 with as much style as PJ Ladd? im the biggest PJ Ladd fan alive and even i thought it was amazing. evan hernandez can skate handrails smoother than any of you could skate a fun box and chris cole had a sick part to.
its great you guys arnt the biggest hesh fans ever, but cmon. its not like my favourite skaters are boulala, dollin and greco but a boulala switch flip, dollin kickflip noseslide or greco switch flip boardslide from 5 years ago are amazing even to this day. and dont tell me that reynolds f/s flip 17 isnt good, cause thats just fucking hectic

12th rate filming, editing and skating it can only be the capital video, capital punishment
those guys are shit, they have shit freestylers, shit street skaters and shit vert skaters.
any video that plays every trick in slow motion after the first sequnece of it in the last section in which a back foot flip out of 50/50 on a small ledge is the best trick needs to be burnt and used to sodomise the producers.
sight unseen apart from cardiel and henry snachez.....now thats a shit video, its so boring it made me want to cry.
inbloom is shit save for chris cole, evan hernandez needs to be shot for being an insult to the pleasure of skateboarding, the look on his face says it all.
tony trujijljijliljlijliljio...if i ever see that guy in the street i'm going to rape him viscously with his own plastic sunglasses. cunt

Ah yes... In Bloom was the name of it. It was such a shitty disgrace that I must have blocked it's name from my mind so as to avoid mental trauma.
I'll stick with the old Toy Machine videos, thank you very much.

actually the new toy machine video 'good and evil' is pretty good...
who ever it was with the last section has a great song, an instrumental 'first breath after coma' by Explosions in The Sky.
but yeah Heavy metal is a great video too, Josh Kalis' part, one of the best switch trés ever!

stick figure what you call "small pop" in regard to daewon is far from it...with his manual tricks i will agree he pops his tricks a little lower...but thats part of the ridiculous control over the board that he has. every flip trick is popped perfectly to set up for the next part, whether he's going into a manual or grind, everything is completely under control. As for small pop, i'd like to see you bust massive tres flips between to semi trailers.

yeah, daewon can fakie flip trick over the craziest gaps, so in that regard you could count him as a gnar skater to.
